ScaleFree Privacy Policy

ScaleFree reads Bluetooth body-fat scales and keeps your weigh-ins on your iPhone. It works fully without an account. Signing in is optional and only needed for cloud backup and the AI coach.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your profile and the profiles of the people you add: name, sex used in the body-composition formulas, date of birth, height, goal weight.
- Every weigh-in: weight, the impedance your scale measured, the time, and the values ScaleFree estimates from them (body fat, muscle, water, bone, visceral fat, BMR, BMI).
- The scales ScaleFree has heard and your settings.
Without an account, none of this leaves your iPhone (except what you send to Apple Health). The data is part of your iPhone's own iCloud backup, if you use iCloud backup.
Optional account and cloud backup
If you sign in with Apple or Google, ScaleFree uses Google Firebase to identify you (your name and email from Apple or Google, or Apple's private relay address) and to back up your profiles and weigh-ins (weight, impedance, time, source, note; not the estimated values, which the app recalculates). The backup is stored in your own area of our Firebase database, readable only by you, and lets you restore it on another phone. Signing out stops the backup. Settings › Account › Delete account deletes the account and everything backed up, immediately and permanently.
AI coach (ScaleFree Pro)
The coach answers with Google's Gemini (through Firebase). Only after you agree, each question is sent with a summary of your progress: sex used in the formulas, age, height, goal, averages and changes over recent weeks. Not your name, not your email and not your list of weigh-ins. Google processes it to answer and, under the Gemini API terms for paid use, does not use it to train its models. The conversation is kept on your iPhone. The coach gives general wellness coaching, not medical advice.
Apple Health
Only if you turn it on (ScaleFree Pro), ScaleFree writes your weight, body fat, lean body mass and BMI to Apple Health after each weigh-in. Only the profile marked as this iPhone's owner is written; other people's weigh-ins never go to Apple Health. ScaleFree may read your height and date of birth from Apple Health to fill in your profile. Data from Apple Health is not used for advertising, is not shared with anyone, and never leaves your iPhone through ScaleFree. Deleting a weigh-in in ScaleFree deletes it from Apple Health too.
Bluetooth
ScaleFree uses Bluetooth only to read your scale. It does not ask for your location. (On Android 11 and older, Android requires the location permission to scan for Bluetooth devices; ScaleFree does not read or store your location.)
Export
CSV export (ScaleFree Pro) creates a file on your iPhone and opens the share sheet. Where the file goes is up to you.
Purchases
ScaleFree Pro is a one-time purchase handled by the App Store. ScaleFree uses RevenueCat to check whether Pro was bought; RevenueCat receives an app user id (anonymous, or your account id when you are signed in, so Pro follows you to Android) and the purchase receipt, never your weigh-ins or profiles.
Crash reports
If crash reporting is enabled in a build, reports hold only technical details (app version, device model, the error and where it happened), never weights, body-composition values, names, dates of birth or any other profile or health data.
Medical disclaimer
ScaleFree is for general wellness. Body-composition values are estimates from bioelectrical impedance and are not a medical measurement or diagnosis.
Children
ScaleFree is not directed to children under 13. Profiles of people under 18 show weight and BMI only.
